I #Celebspotted some Big Hollywood Stars in Vancouver in 2011.

Once Upon a Time  - Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas

The Company You Keep - Anna Kendrick.
The Christmas Tree is recycled and decorations have been stored once again and now our attention turns to a fresh new year filled with resolutions, hopes and promises.   It is time to get back to work or find new work and pursue new adventures that will put money in our pockets and hopefully give us some self satisfaction.

Tomorrow, January 1, will mark the first day of a brand new year.
Looking back on 2011, it wasn't so bad but it could have been better.  The film industry in Vancouver saw a few great features and some famous faces around Vancouver but it doesn't compare to Toronto which is enjoying a booming film and television industry.

Early last year a couple of  shows didn't make it past their first season and we said good-bye to Hellcats, Human Target, V, Eureka, Life Unexpected and long running shows like Smallville and Stargate Universe.

We welcomed some new shows such as the hit series, Once Upon a Time and The Secret Circle which are gaining audiences with each episode.  Supernatural celebrated Season 7 with the Winchesters and its competition in the Friday night time slot, Fringe came back for season 4.  The popular series Psych wrapped season 6 a few weeks ago and it looks like they will be back in Vancouver for season 7.

Other new series include, Artic Air, Falling Skies and  Alcatraz which will all debut in 2012.   Back for a second promising season is the live audience show, Mr. Young along with the drama The Killing the law show Fairly Legal and kids shows  Level Up, The Troop and Tower Prep.

2011 saw a few major motion pictures call Vancouver home and brought some very famous faces that were Celebspotted around town.

Tom Cruise brought his family to Vancouver for three months while he filmed the action block buster Mission Impossible 4, The Ghost Protocol.  His wife Katie Holmes and daughter Suri Cruise lured some extra paparazzi to Vancouver for a few weeks much to the chagrin of the local papps.   However, Katie and Suri made daily excursions to Starbucks and some shopping at Holt Renfrew which allowed for dozens of beautiful candid photographs.

I was interviewed by CBC News for a little segment titled "Finding Tom Cruise".  We ended up finding Tom Cruise and a few dozen people braved the unseasonably cold weather to watch Tom chase actor Michael Nyqvist through a street made to look like they were India.  You can see the photos on my Flickr, here

2011 saw the return of our favorite production company, Summit Entertainment.  The much anticipated Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn began filming in February and continued to film until mid April.   Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart finally came out as a couple and Taylor Lautner enjoyed a brief romance with his Abduction co-star, Lily Collins.    Dozens of actors new to the franchise were spotted in Vancouver and Squamish where most of the filming too place.  There are too many to name but you can check out some of my candid pictures on my flickr set here.

During the summer Matt Damon and Jodie Foster made Vancouver their home while filming a science fiction thriller entitled Elysium.  Jodie was spotted several times at Commune Cafe and Matt and his family enjoyed the waffles at Cafe Medina on the weekends.

The cast of Nickelodeon's Big Time Rush arrived in Vancouver with little fan fare to work on their new action/drams/musical Big Time Movie.  It looked like the four main stars of the series were always having a blast working on their movie.

Diary of a Whimpy Kid number 3 filmed though out the summer in numerous locations and Robert Redford brought Shia LaBeouf and an interesting Hollywood hotshot cast to Vancouver this fall.
Redford's project in which he directs and stars, The Company You Keep, kept it interesting for star spotting with actors Susan Sarandon, Nick Nolte, Anna Kendrick, Terrance Howard, Stanley Tucci, Chris Cooper and many more.  Shia was often spotted downtown Vancouver and made headlines when he got into a dust up at the Cinama Lounge late one evening and a video of the event was sent directly to TMZ.com.

The reboot of Superman Man of Steel arrived in Vancouver mid fall and continues to shoot in locations around Vancouver until the end of January.  We can expect to see the tiny village of Ucluelet and Nanaimo on Vancover Island featured and locations around the lower mainland in the action movie due out in 2012.

Henry Cavill was spotted on set in North Vancouver late October and everyone was able to catch the actor doing some action sequences against a green screen with other actors and stunt people.

Amy Adams, Micheal Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, and Henry Cavill were all *Celebspotted around Vancouver.

Note* I've been using  #Celebspotting on twitter when a celeb has been spotted around Vancouver.  Anyone can #Celebspot an actor and anyone can post the sighting. The majority of Celebspotting items I've posted are from my own experience or from DMs sent to me of a sighting where the source wishes to remain anonymous.    There was some confusion about the use of hashtag Celebspotting and by no means was it a way to inform anyone where the celebrity was at any given time.  It was simply a way for people to add their hash tag celeb sightings for fun.

Supernatural, Fringe, The Secret Circle, Once Upon a Time, Mr. Young, Superman, Alcatraz, Artic Air, Fairly Legal, Falling Skies, The Killing and Out of Time will all be returning to work next week so it is a sure bet you will see someone at the airport tomorrow.

There are at least 9 flights coming from Los Angeles so pick your flight and you may catch a glimpse of your favorite TV star, that is if you can see them through the crush of autographs hounds staked out at the arrivals gate.  Keep you eye on them and when they push their pictures onto someone to be signed, you will know they are a celebrity.  I wouldn't get to close to the autographs hounds, they are mean junk yard dogs who are very territorial and they have been know to bite.

All the best to everyone in 2012 and I hope for more feature films, more TV series and more work for everyone involved in the industry in Vancouver and Happy #Celebspotting.

Flynet
Is she meeting his family for the holidays?

Blake Lively was in Vancouver with her beau Ryan Reynolds, whose parents and brothers live in the area. During their Canadian visit, the two were spotted at the Original Cupcake Shop, where they picked up a small cake and several cupcakes. "They seemed like a really sweet couple," an employee tells us.

The two, who have been spotted getting cozy in New York and in Boston, also stepped out for breakfast at Benny's Bagels, followed by a shopping trip along West Fourth Avenue. The Gossip Girl star scoped out the clothes at Gravity Pope, and she would ask Reynolds's opinions about her wardrobe choices.

Says an in-store stylist: "[They were] super nice to work with." "You can just tell they were together and very happy." – Christine Kilpatrick

While hubby Jay-Z is busy working on his Watch the Throne show with Kanye West,Beyoncé spent her time shopping in Vancouver. The pregnant pop star and her entourage arrived at upscale department store Holt Renfrew where they were met with more security, who ensured fellow shoppers didn't snap photos or harass Beyoncé. She, meanwhile, stopped at several cosmetics counters, then made her way to the fragrance department. Despite the security, Beyoné went relatively unnoticed, a source says. "She looked so comfortable and quite pretty," the source tells us, adding that she was "super friendly" with the staff. – Christine Kilpatrick

Seattle - Two days is not enough

It was easy enough, "Tweet us a photo where you spotted the Seattle Holiday truck to @CKNW for a weekend in Seattle" so I did.  I was attending my Christmas Party at the Brew Pub in Surrey City Center when they were having the Surrey Tree Lighting Ceremony when I spotted fun truck.  It was white with a Seattle Sky line display made up like a Woodwards Window.
A week later I received a tweet from the promotions gal at CKNW extending congratulations and asking me for my email so she could send me more details about what I had won.
As I read down the list I became more excited because not only did I win two night at Inn at the Market, I won a lot of other goodies as well.
Suddenly I had to work two nights into a busy Christmas schedule because the prize expired in January and wasn't valid for New Year's Eve.
I quickly booked a day off of work and invited my two young teens along for a quick adventure down to Seattle.
They had never been to Seattle before so they didn't have any expectations.   The Inn at the Market Hotel impressed me right away while I was making reservations and had to ask for a room large enough for three.  It was no problem for them to upgrade me to a "Market View" with two queen beds.  Valet parking was included and I later found out parking in Seattle is expensive and sparse.
Our Market view suite at Inn at the Market on Pine and 1st Ave.
We arrived before noon on Sunday morning and unpacked out clothes.
We looked at the map of Seattle and decided the Savor Seattle Market Tour was our best bet given we were famished and wanted to visit the market anyhow.  I called the front desk and they got us on the 2 pm tour.  I had to pay $39.00 for the additional kid.
We all met at Starbucks on the Corner of 1st Ave and Pine.  There were 11 others and our guide, Satana was a drama major.  We all put on our audio packs and he flipped open his bright pink umbrella and we were off on our Pike Market Adventure.

Daily Dozen Mini Donuts

Tea Shop

Sampled Salmon and watched them toss fish.

Brass Pig that stopped a run a way taxi and saved lives.

Fresh fruit and veggies available

After our tour ended a couple of hours later, we decided to relax in our room and make dinner  reservations at El Gaucho Steak.  We had a gift card to use in the prize package and the restaurant was within walking distance from our hotel
The dining experience was wonderful for myself and my kids.  We all dress semi formal and were seated in the middle of the room.  It was busy for a Sunday night which is a good sign.  It is a good idea to check out the menu online ahead of time to get an idea of what is available.  I noted the four dollar symbols so I knew it was a pricey restaurant.

We enjoyed several appetizers including soup and salad and some wonderful tender steaks.  The grand finale was the flaming Bananas Foster.  Once can't miss this table side show of Rum and Banana liquor being set a-blaze with a healthy spoonfuls of butter and brown-sugar stirred into a golden brown liquid of sinful mouth watering Carmel glaze.  Two fresh bananas are simmered in the sauce and artfully scooped onto plates with two scoops of vanilla ice cream.  The remaining sauce is quickly poured over the ice cream and bananas and then I forget what happened after that because I seemed to have been lost in the flavor and aroma of bliss.

New Feature "Akira" due in Vancouver Spring of 2012

It looks like 2012 is going to be another year of Comic Book remake releases with sequels of "Spiderman" and "Superman" hitting theaters and now the remake of the popular Japanese Anime SiFi feature "Akira".

There have been rumors swirling around like tiny dust devils, causing little damage but enough power for some people to take notice.  The new "Akira" is part one of a two part anime feature that was first made in 1988 and was written and directed by manga artist Katsuhiro Ohtomo.  It is a six volume graphic novel.   In the 2013 Akira, Katsuhiro Ohtomo is one of the writers and manga artist.

Leonardo DeCaprio's production company Appian Way (Red Riding Hood) will work with Mad Chance and  Legendary Productions and Warner Brothers Pictures will distribute the finished product in 2013.

According to IMDB, "Part one of a two-part live action adaptation of the 1988 anime film, "Akira", in which the leader of a biker gang tries to save his kidnapped friend from a powerful supernatural experiment".

This production is slated to begin filming in Vancouver this spring and a recent casting notice from Acting Auditions lists cast and production notes.  The story takes place in fictitious city named New Manhattan.

Kristen Stewart (Twilight Saga) stars as Ky Reed, "a powerful medium who cannot channel psychic powers of her own but channels powers of others through her body".

Garrett Hedlund who co-starred with Kristen Stewart in "On The Road"  will star as one of the brothers, Kaneda and is the main protagonist in part one.

Helen Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lastrange - Harry Potter) is rumored to star as Lady Miyako and Ken Watanabe stars as the Colonel in charge of government experiments.

Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet - Serra  is set to direct part-one. His recent work includes directing "Unknown" with Liam Neeson and January Jones.   Jared Padalecki from Vancouver shot Supernatural once worked with Juame Collet- Serra in the 2005 horror flick, "House of Wax".

If and when Kristen Stewart arrives in Vancouver, you can bet your bippi that her love interest, Robert Pattinson will be making a few on set visits.  Once again all eyes will be on Vancouver while one of Hollywood's most popular power couples shun the spotlight and make a game of dodging the eager paparazzi.   I can't wait.
